EMDR Treatment Planning: Target Selection & Sequencing

2 Continuing Education Credits Intermediate Level For Licensed Mental Health Clinicians Trained in EMDR Designed for clinicians working beyond single-incident trauma. Select and sequence EMDR targets with clarity, even in complex, non-linear cases. Start immediately. Learn at your own pace.

About the Course

Target selection and sequencing are core components of EMDR treatment planning, yet many clinicians report uncertainty once they move beyond single-incident trauma. Clients often present with multiple symptoms, overlapping timelines, and complex histories that do not fit neatly into a linear model. Knowing where to begin, and why, can significantly impact treatment efficiency, client stability, and overall outcomes. This intermediate-level course provides a structured, clinically grounded approach to target selection and sequencing. You will learn how to move beyond the standard three-pronged model by integrating key clinical factors such as symptom presentation, developmental trauma, attachment dynamics, dissociation risk, and current stressors into your decision-making. Participants review current research on EMDR and explore multiple evidence-informed sequencing models, including timeline-based approaches, symptom-informed sequencing, the Two-Method Approach, and developmental frameworks. The course emphasizes flexible clinical thinking, helping you recognize when a plan needs revision and how to support more accurate informed consent. Through didactic instruction and engaging clinical vignettes, participants will walk through case examples and learn how to develop sequencing plans that can be flexibly adapted to complex or non-linear clinical presentations. Use this course to: → Select initial EMDR targets with greater clarity in complex or multi-incident presentations → Apply multiple sequencing models based on client presentation, not protocol habit → Recognize when a sequencing plan needs adjustment and revise it effectively Designed to strengthen clinical decision-making, improve treatment efficiency, and support safer, more effective EMDR treatment planning. Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, participants will be able to: - Differentiate between EMDR target selection and target sequencing within trauma case conceptualization. - Identify and describe major EMDR target selection approaches, including timeline, float back/trace back, affect scan, and negative belief-based approaches. - Describe multiple EMDR target sequencing frameworks, including the Strategic Developmental Model, Symptom-Informed Model, and Two-Method Approach. - Apply EMDR target selection and sequencing principles to clinical case conceptualization using symptom presentation, developmental history, negative cognitions, and present triggers. - Demonstrate increased clinical flexibility in organizing trauma material and selecting EMDR treatment planning approaches based on client presentation and treatment goals.                                            Course Format and Completion This course is delivered through didactic instruction and clinical examples. This pre-recorded webinar is available on demand and must be completed in full to receive continuing education credit. Prior to receiving credit for this course, you must: • Review the material in full • Pass the post-test with a minimum score of 75% (three attempts allowed) Partial credit is not awarded.                      Accuracy, Utility, and Limitations of Course Material This course is grounded in current research and clinical best practices related to EMDR and treatment planning. The material is designed to support clinical application through practical integration strategies and case-based examples. While the models presented are evidence-informed, clinical judgment remains essential when applying them in practice. This course does not replace foundational EMDR training, advanced protocol-specific instruction, or consultation when indicated.                                    Refunds, Exchanges, and Cancellations Due to the digital and pre-recorded nature of this course, all sales are final. Once access is granted, refunds, exchanges, or cancellations are not available. By purchasing, you acknowledge and agree to these terms.
